MEMU Train Services Planned for Dharwad-Gadag and Hubballi-Dharwad: V Somanna
Hubballi: Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna has acknowledged that passenger train services have significantly reduced since the railway tracks were converted from meter gauge to broad gauge, causing inconvenience to both urban and rural commuters.
During a review meeting at the South Western Railway (SWR) headquarters, Rail Soudha, on Sunday, Somanna revealed that elected representatives from Hubballi-Dharwad have requested the introduction of MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train services between Hubballi and Dharwad. Similar requests have also been received for MEMU train services between Dharwad and Gadag, as well as other cities.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Somanna stated that to assess the feasibility of running MEMU trains, he had instructed officers to prepare a detailed report. He emphasized the importance of submitting this report to the Railway Board at the earliest to ensure smoother and more convenient travel for commuters.
